No Time to Waste
U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Steven Melo-Justo, 7th Equipment Maintenance Squadron aerospace ground equipment craftsman, containerizes used fluorescent light bulbs (waste lamps) at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, May 10, 2017. Mercury-containing waste lamps are considered Universal wastes, along with paint and paint-related wastes (state of Texas only), batteries, pesticides, and other mercury-containing equipment. A Universal waste is a category of hazardous waste that is subject to more relaxed standards of accumulation, recordkeeping, and shipping requirements due to the fact that they are commonly generated by a wide variety of establishments. In 2016, Dyess properly disposed of almost 27,000 pounds of universal waste. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Austin Mayfield)
