No Time to Waste
U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Steven Melo-Justo, 7th Equipment Maintenance Squadron aerospace ground equipment craftsman, wrings diesel from a fuel-contaminated absorbent at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, May 10, 2017. After fuel-contaminated absorbents are containerized in a drum, the drum is taken to a 90-day facility where any remaining fuel is removed from the absorbents using a centrifuge. Afterwards, the absorbents can be re-used several more times prior to being properly disposed of, saving the Air Force money for both disposal and purchase of new absorbents. The fuel removed from the absorbents is recycled off-base at no cost to the government. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Austin Mayfield)
