Airmen throughout Dyess found themselves behind bars as 7th Security Forces Squadron members apprehended anyone with a warrant for their arrest May 15, during a jail-and-bail fundraiser here.

The fundraiser allowed airmen to have military and civilian personnel from Dyess arrested and taken to the base exchange, where a make-shift prison cell awaited them. The prisoners were held one minute for every dollar donated toward their arrest.

"It's all in good fun," said Staff Sgt. Shakeyawan Byder, 7th SFS. "The money that we raise goes toward the memorial fund and the Defenders Association."

Once the apprehended person is taken to the base exchange, they are read their offense and have the option to pay bail or serve their time.

"I didn't do it," said Tech. Sgt. Howard Taylor, 372nd Training Squadron. "Once I get out, I'm going to find the person who had me arrested and put them in jail."

The event was held during National Police Week, proclaimed by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Dyess will also be holding a K-9 demonstration, vehicle display and bike rodeo May 16, from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at the Dyess Youth Center parking lot. Additionally, a retreat ceremony is scheduled to be held May 18 at 4:00 p.m.
