Rescue and Retrieval

DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas—Airman 1st Class Anthony Guajardo, 7th Civil Engineer firefighter, peers down a dark tunnel here Oct. 6. Several firefighters gathered at the training grounds located just off the flightline to conduct rescue and retrieval training in confined spaces. These emergency responders can be called to situations that require climbing or propelling into small spaces, to retrieve the bodies of dead or injured people, due to the hazards of ditches or uncontrolled working areas.
