The 2016-17 school year for Abilene begins Aug. 22, and parents must ensure they’ve completed key steps before their child can attend.

First, parents should ensure their child’s shot records are up-to-date. This can be done by contacting the 7th Medical Group immunizations clinic or directly through the child’s school, said Diane Russell, Dyess Air Force Base school liaison.

Parents can then register their child directly through the school and check the vicinity of the closest bus stop, if applicable.

“Each school should have a public supply list for attending students, though most will get their lists on their first day,” said Russell. “It’s also important for parents of middle school students to check the required dress code, which is provided by the schools.”

The Delaware gate near the Dyess Elementary School will have modified hours during the academic year. It will be open 7 a.m. – 8:30 am and 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. for regular Dyess Elementary school days.

For questions, parents can contact the Abilene Independent School District student services at (325) 766-1444 ext. 8764 and the Wylie Independent School District student services at (325) 437-2370.
