QUESTION

Nikki - I see people comment about the parking for deployed spouse being silly. I would actually love to see one or two more of it. I don't believe it's entitlement to get to park there. I believe it makes it easier for those of us who have little one with us with no one else to help. Yes I could walk ten parking spot further but I prefer to park close if I can bc
of my ...little one. Whether it's sunny or rainy. However I do agree on havin atleast one or two expecting mother spot. I don't agree on taking the deployed spouses spot away. So my question would be if you can explain the deployed Airmans spouse parking so some people would get why it's not silly or pointless to have it. Thank you.

  RESPONSE

Nikki - First, I want to assure you that I do not believe that the spouses who utilize the reserved spaces at the Commissary and Exchange feel "entitled" to them. I have several reserved parking spaces for myself around base, and I don't feel entitled to them--but I certainly appreciate them! You're correct that one of the reasons why there are reserved spots for the spouses of deployed Airmen is to provide them with easier access while running essential errands, like grocery shopping; to make life just a little easier for a family whose loved one is away. In addition, it's one small way that Team Dyess can say "thank you". I require a lot of our Airmen, and ask a lot of our military spouses. As a military spouse, you voluntarily serve alongside your Airman through late nights, long deployments and other
challenges that can sometimes confront a military family. I truly wish I could give more, but this is one tool that allows me--and the rest of Team Dyess--to say thank you. I should mention that, as I explained to Brittany in my response last week, our Mission Support Group and Civil Engineers are currently looking at the allocation of all our reserved parking spaces (to include those for Gen/Col, CMSgt, Airman of the Quarter, etc.), to ensure we are making the best use of those spaces. That said, if it is determined that more spaces for spouses of deployed Airmen are needed, you may see them in the near future. On the other hand, if it is determined that these spaces are not being utilized or they are being inappropriately utilized, the Mission Support Group commander may recommend that we reallocate these
spaces. Thanks for your question, Nikki, I hope that's the explanation you were looking for!

QUESTION

Jerrie Ann Brown- Just wondering why the DBIDs system is almost never
used at the gates anymore? Does it have to do with peak times?

Brig. Gen. Glen VanHerck

  RESPONSE

Jerrie - The 7th Security Forces Squadron uses the Defense Biometric Identification System as often as possible. As you have correctly noted - sometimes our Defenders utilize other methods of ID verification, but for reasons I would prefer not to address due to OPSEC and force protection concerns. However, even when the system is not used, the Defender/Defenders at the gate will still physically inspect the card and ensure it is valid and has not expired, and matches the individual attempting to enter the installation. Thanks for your question.

QUESTION

Crawford Waggoner -When can we expect the elevator to be fixed at the
gym? Older folks use the track, and stairs are out of the question if you've
had a hip replacement!

  RESPONSE

Carol - Good news - the fitness center elevator is working again, thanks to our fitness center staff. I appreciate you bringing this up, and I encourage anyone who encounters any non-functioning equipment in the fitness center to let the staff know as soon as possible so it can be fixed. They're there to help!
