Commander's Corner

  • Published
The Commander's Corner is a forum for the Dyess community to make suggestions or voice concerns about Dyess directly to Brig. Gen. Glen VanHerck, 7th Bomb Wing commander. Each week the Dyess Public Affairs office solicits questions via the official Dyess Facebook page, offering people an opportunity to ask questions and receive answers directly from the wing commander.

COMMENT

Brayden Woods - I went to Dyess for a tour last year for AFJROTC and I
just want to say that Dyess Air Force Base was my first Air Force base to
see and I was glad that I was given the opportunity to tour the base. So I
just want to thank you for giving us the opportunity to tour your great
base.

  RESPONSE

Brayden - I'm glad to hear that you and your classmates had the
opportunity to visit us at Team Dyess; it is our pleasure to host young
people like you - to give you an up-close look at our day-to-day operations,
and to help you better understand our mission, policies and programs. Every
Air Force base is a little different from the next - and I must admit, I am
a little biased toward Dyess, but I think you'll find that the Airmen at
every installation you visit are hardworking, mission-driven professionals.
Base tours are especially insightful for folks who may be interested in
joining the Air Force, so I am very happy to hear that we left a positive
impression on you. And don't forget - the Air Force is always looking for
more bright, talented leaders to join our organization! I see you were
promoted to Cadet Master Sergeant last month - congratulations on your
achievement, and best of luck to you and your fellow cadets on the remainder
of the school year!

QUESTION

Christine Roby - I know that the Airman's Attic is closed for a while,
but are they still taking donations? We are PCSing and have a lot of items
to donate, especially if they are looking to build their 'inventory' back
up.

  RESPONSE

Christine - I absolutely appreciate your thoughtfulness and offer to help
us rebuild our inventory for the Airman's Attic. Our Force Support Squadron
is still actively looking for an alternate location to re-open the facility,
so unfortunately they are still unable to accept any donations at this time.
If you are leaving before it reopens, I would encourage you to consider the
Thrift Shop on base or even Goodwill downtown. Our hope is to announce a
location in a few weeks, and then we will put a call out for donations to
replenish the Airman's Attic inventory. Thanks again Christine for asking -
I know you will find a location where you can donate your items, and many
people can benefit from them.
