Commander's Corner

  • Published
The Commander's Corner is a forum for the Dyess community to make suggestions or voice concerns about Dyess directly to Col. Michael Bob Starr, 7th Bomb Wing commander. Each week the Dyess Public Affairs office solicits questions via the official Dyess Facebook page, offering people an opportunity to ask questions and receive answers directly from the wing commander.

QUESTIONS

Jason Morris - Is it required for us to have spikes at the gates? On
several occasions I have had chunks taken out of my tires from the spikes
they are oversized mud tires but I have no option but to drive over the
spikes to exit base

Nathan Peace - I have regular all-terrain tires and I'll second that question! Tires are NOT cheap.

  RESPONSE

Jason and Nathan - I'm sorry to hear the spikes have damaged your tires.
Protecting the Airmen who work on Dyess AFB -- not to mention the families
who live on the installation -- is one of my highest obligations, and the
spikes make up an important part of that protection. You and your fellow
Airmen are our most treasured resource, and I am simply unwilling to
compromise your security -- even marginally -- by removing the spikes.
Despite your unfortunate experience, the spikes rarely cause damage to
outbound traffic. This already small risk can be lowered even further by
ensuring you don't accelerate as your tires go over the spike strips.
Finally, if the spikes have caused damage to your tires, you can seek
compensation through the base legal office. If an investigation determines
that the 7th Bomb Wing is at fault, you will be reimbursed for reasonable
expenses. Thank you for your questions.
