The Air Mobility Command top enlisted Airman visited Dyess Tuesday to thank members of the 317th Airlift Group and congratulate them on their continuing success in the area of responsibility.

Command Chief Master Sgt. Joseph Barron, Jr., came from Scott Air Force Base, Ill., because he hadn't yet been to Dyess but wanted to personally see the work that goes on in the C-130 unit that's been hailed the "busiest" by AMC.

"There are so many people here working hard for our country and the Air Force, and it's just great to see their professionalism and dedication," Chief Barron said. "We (the AMC) exist because of the Airmen here. It's amazing to see how busy this unit is, and yet what truly impressed me was how excited these Airmen are to be doing their jobs."

Chief Barron said he was talking to one of the flight engineer superintendents at the 317th AG, who said when the group needed volunteers to go on the next deployment, all 50 people in the room raised their hands to go.

"The hardest problem (the superintendent) had was getting people to volunteer not to go," Chief Barron said.

The AMC command chief, whose job it is to advise the AMC commander and senior staff on matters of enlisted health, welfare and morale, professional development, and effective utilization of personnel, said his No. 1 goal is to take care of the men and women serving here and at every AMC base andstressed the importance of professional development, even in the midst of a high-operations tempo.

He described the partnership between the 317th AG and the 7th Bomb Wing as "seamless."

"The relationship between the 317th (AG) and Dyess is great," Chief Barron said. "Everyone here has that West Texas hospitality, and it's so obvious that both units are excited about and committed to helping each other out."

Over and over throughout the day, Chief Barron thanked each shop he visited, recognizing superior performers, flight chiefs, commanders, and the Airmen who work to keep Hercs in the sky.

"I couldn't be more proud of you or any happier to be with you today. I just want to thank each and every one of you for what you do every day," he said.
