Inspection finds Dyess to be among safest work environments in ACC, Air Force Published Feb. 8, 2008 By 1st Lt. Will Powell 7th Bomb Wing Public Affairs DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The results are in: Dyess is a very safe place to work. This is essentially the conclusion that the team of 12 inspectors from Air Combat Command headquarters and other installations discovered during the annual environmental, safety, and occupational health compliance assessment conducted here Feb. 4-8. The team of inspectors, who primarily examined Dyess' regulatory compliance, worker health and safety risks, and Air Force Instruction compliance, overall found 40 percent fewer "findings" than average. In fact, four of Dyess' 26 environmental, ground safety and occupational health programs were named "models" or "benchmarks," which set the standard for the entire Air Force. Out of the past six inspections conducted at other bases lately, the average base received only one or two model or benchmark designations for their programs. Dyess' hazardous and solid waste, chemical hazards, air emissions and toxic substances programs were found to be among the best in Air Combat Command, if not the entire Air Force. Twenty-one of Dyess' 26 programs were also rated as "solid," which means the programs are "substantially in compliance and effectively managed," according to the inspection report. "We are fortunate to have so many outstanding program managers on our staff helping Dyess ensure we are good environmental stewards," said Teresa Clouse, 7th Civil Engineer Squadron environmental flight chief. "Dyess, and I personally, are truly blessed." Ms. Clouse also said that the inspectors often commented on how well-rounded Dyess programs are base wide, and they really had to dig to find any areas for improvement.
