The 2008 Dyess Big Country Airfest is May 3 and all are invited to attend to experience the Dyess mission and the Air Force way of life. Tye Gate on Military Drive opens at 8 a.m. for the public and opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at approximately 10 a.m.

The main gate will be reserved for all military, civilians and dependents that normally have access to Dyess. Admission and parking are free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

In addition to this year's highlight act, the Pearl Harbor attack re-enactment team Tora! Tora! Tora!, many other performers include the F-15, B-1, C-130, the U.S. Air Force Academy Wings of Blue Jump Team, multiple historic bombers and warbirds, an array of civilian aerial demonstration teams, and dozens and dozens of military and civilian static display aircraft. Approximately 70 aircraft are included in this year's airshow.

Many ground demonstrations are also scheduled such as convoy defense maneuvers after a simulated attack, explosive ordnance disposal (bomb squad) team demonstration, a B-1 bomb-loading demonstration, and a car and bike show. These demonstrations will showcase just a small fraction of how Dyess Airmen and the Air Force help fight and win our nation's wars.

For security reasons the following items will not be permitted into the airshow: Weapons of any kind to include guns and knives, coolers, backpacks, alcohol and glass containers. Small strollers, diaper bags and any other small bag will be permitted but are subject to be searched before entering the airshow. Roller skates, roller blades, skateboards, scooters or animals except for service animals are also prohibited. Guests should bring plenty of sunscreen, water, ear plugs and their own lawn chair.
