The Dyess Library's mission is to develop, sustain and regenerate people through first-class customer service ... the first time and every time.

The library serves as an Air Force resource and as a public library for the base community. According to these roles, library material selection must often be a choice between mission essential materials, educational resources for various schools associated with the Base and materials needed for personal enrichment of community members.

Patronage consists of active-duty military, Guard, Reserves, retirees and dependents. Civilians to include appropriated and non-appropriated funded, contractors and temporary duty military members may also utilize the library.

"We serve a diverse population and strive to meet the needs of all our clientele," said Cristi Higgins, Library systems analyst.

One program offered at the base library is the Summer Reading Program, designed to entice young patrons to read.

"This is just one method used to provide our military children with as many reading experiences as possible," Mrs. Higgins said. "We strive to make our programs informative as well as fun."

The summer reading program consists of informative speakers, crafts, snacks and prizes to encourage children to read and learn.

"Cozy Corner Story Time" begins in September and meets Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. During Cozy Corner Story Time, a library staff member or volunteer reads one to two stories as well as provides crafts and snacks.

Other programs are offered throughout the year to encourage reading and enhance our collection and services. Past programs included reading with Dr. Seuss, New Moon Party, Thanksgiving and Christmas programs.

"The Dyess Library strives to meet all information needs of our patrons and will continue to serve our diverse population with first-class customer service," Mrs. Higgins said.
