INTEGRATED RESILIENCE OFFICE
The Integrated Resilience Office mission is to reduce incidences of interpersonal & self-directed violence by building and sustaining a resilient community that fosters mental, physical, social, and spiritual fitness.
Courses will be available soon
ASIST is a 2-day, 16 hour in-depth workshop where participants learn to identify when someone is having thoughts of suicide, talk openly about suicide and create a safety plan to assure individuals are "safe for now" from thoughts of suicide as well as suicide behavior. This training is targeted at frontline supervisors, first sergeants and first responders. Contact IRO for coordination and planning.
SafeTALK is a 4-hour workshop, where participants learn how to reach out to someone thinking about suicide, overcome attitudes that act as barriers to help, talk openly about suicide, and connect with further support. SafeTALK provides a more in-depth training for anyone interested in a deeper understanding of suicide prevention and intervention. Contact IRO for coordination and planning.
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training teaches individuals how to recognize, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges, providing initial support until professional help can be accessed. The training uses a five-step action plan, known as ALGEE (Assess for risk, Listen non-judgmentally, Give reassurance and information, Encourage professional help, and Encourage self-help), to help guide people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. It is not a substitute for professional therapy but aims to equip people with practical skills to have supportive conversations and connect individuals with appropriate care. Training is provided cost free by our community partners from Betty Hardwick. Unit training available. Course is generally 8hrs for in person training. Online and blended options are also available. Contact IRO for coordination and planning.
CALM is an evidenced based intervention training used to increase time and distance between individuals at risk of suicide and the most lethal items in their environment, particularly firearms. CALM training can be taken free online at this link https://zerosuicidetraining.edc.org/enrol/index.php?id=20 or you can have an in person training at your unit. Contact IRO for coordination and planning.
This is a tailored training session that can be provided to units of any size to orient them to the DoD and DAF suicide prevention strategy focused on increasing the time and distance between an at-risk individual and objects that could be used to attempt suicide. By making these items less accessible during a crisis, lethal means safety creates an opportunity for intervention, reconsideration, ultimately saving lives. Contact IRO for coordination and planning.
Resilience Training Assistants (RTAs) are trained Airmen who assist their fellow Airmen in developing resilience skills. They are certified through Air University and are tasked with teaching resilience skills to others. They provide peer-to-peer instruction in evidence-based strategies designed to improve mental, social, emotional, and physical well-being. RTAs complete a locally provided 3-day certification course and learn to deliver the AF Resilience skills to diverse audiences, usually within the units where they are assigned. They assist MRTs and the IRO with Resilience Training initiatives. Contact IRO for coordination and planning.
MRTs serve as the commanders’ advisors for resilience training and also work with their installation’s IRO. They help Airmen build a repeatable resilient practice and apply these skills to support their unit’s mission. They also focus on building a healthy community and foster a culture of strength and adaptability. The MRT refresher is a one-day seminar conducted locally. To become an MRT or attend the seminar contact the IRO for more information.
Wingman Guardian Connect (WGC) is a DAF-specific resilience skills training program. It focuses on building strong connections through material that is personally meaningful and socially interactive. The program aims to strengthen protective relationship networks and skills for managing career and personal challenges, reducing vulnerability to suicide across the USAF population. It encourages Airmen to engage actively with their peers, share personal challenges, and develop a collective sense of duty and care. The program has been integrated into Dyess AFB First Term Enlisted Course.
