Area Defense Counsel

About us

The Area Defense Counsel is an experienced judge advocate who provides legal defense services to active-duty service members in Uniform Code of Military Justice proceedings and adverse administrative actions. They are a licensed attorney providing free and confidential services to all members, regardless of rank or Air Force Specialty Code.

U.S. Air Force Capt. Lauren M. Shepard and Staff Sgt. Tore Myklebust are the servicing ADC and Defense Paralegal at Dyess AFB. They work for you and will zealously advocate for your best interest. They are completely independent, meaning they do not work for or report to the base legal office or any chain of command on this installation.  

If you receive adverse action (LOC/LOA/LOR), non-judicial punishment (NJP), or are read your Article 31 rights, please contact the ADC office immediately for support.

Everyone makes mistakes, but together we can build a stronger, better Air Force!

Their counsel is free - Service members will not be charged any fees for legal advice.

Article 31 Rights

If a member is suspected of an offense and/or read their Article 31 rights, they have the absolute right to remain silent and consult an attorney prior to making any statements.  Any statements made, oral or written, may be used as evidence against them in a trial by court-martial or in other judicial or administrative proceedings.  If a member chooses to exercise their right to counsel, it cannot be held against them and the ADC will be available to help.
