U.S. Army Air Corps Lt. Col. William Edwin Dyess was born on August 9, 1916, and dreamt of becoming a pilot in the U.S. Armed Forces. Dyess entered the Army Air Forces in May of 1936 as a Second Lieutenant, and later became a distinguished hero through his exceptional actions in World War II. (Courtesy photo)
