Celebrating 30 years: Retired colonel remembers arrival of first B-1B
Abilene Magazine’s article written about the B-1B Lancer was one of a series published in its June 1985 collector’s issue. The city of Abilene and the rest of West Central Texas provided overwhelming support for the most modern aircraft in the Air Force’s inventory at the time. Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Morton Langholtz, the B-1 Site Activation Task Force commander from 1983-1985, described how the interest in the B-1 was phenomenal, which continued to strengthen the relationship between the Abilene and Dyess community.
