Veterans week in the Big Country
U.S. Air Force Col. Michael Bob Starr, 7th Bomb Wing commander, speaks before the showing of the movie “4-4-43” Nov. 7, 2014, at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas. The documentary is based on the account of Lt. Col. William Dyess and other prisoners of war who escaped from the Philippines’ Davao Penal Colony, a Japanese army prison, during World War II. Called “the greatest story of the war in the Pacific” by the U.S. War Department in 1944, Dyess told of the atrocities prisoners of war suffered during this time.
