40th AS returns home after successful deployment
U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Mitch Spillers, 40th Airlift Squadron director of operations, is embraced by his wife, Bridgett, and children as he returns from a deployment Sept. 15, 2014, at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas. While deployed as part of the 774th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, the 40th AS executed the first humanitarian relief operation to aid more than 120,000 Badakhshan mudslide victims in northeast Afghanistan in May 2014. They flew the first aircraft into the area delivering critical supplies of food, water, tents, blankets and a forklift to support follow-on relief operations.
