Poems from prison
DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas-- A binded collection of poems written by Charles Brown, "Bars from Bilibid Prison," and a photo of Brown and his wife, Katie Bell, sit on display June 2 at the Dyess Base Exchange here. Charles Brown was a Prisoner of War for three years in Bilibid prison Muntinlupa City, Philippines, during World War II. Charles Brown wrote 90 poems and kept them hidden from the Japanese throughout his imprisonment. According to Blair Howell, founder and present owner of the collection, the display of Brown's original poems at the base exchange will remain for a couple weeks.
