Dyess Airman dies in head-on collision April 3

AnĀ Airman assigned to the 7th Component Maintenance Squadron here died April 3, 2014 at approximately 3:20 p.m.

According to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, Detachment 222 at Dyess Air Force Base, Airman 1st Class Justin Phillips died on the scene when the vehicle he was operating collided head-on with a semi-truck.

AF OSI stated that the collision was witnessed by members of the Bixby Police Department who were on the scene in Bixby, Okla.

Phillips, a native of Oklahoma, was an Aerospace Propulsion Apprentice with one year time in service.

At the time of the incident, Phillips had been absent without approved leave from his place of duty since April 1, 2014.

"On behalf of Team Dyess, our most sincere condolences and prayers are extended to Justin's family and loved ones. Our community is deeply saddened by this event, and we are committed to helping those personally affected by this tragic loss," said Col. Michael Bob Starr, 7th Bomb Wing commander.

Dyess special investigators continue to aid Bixby law enforcement authorities in their investigation of Phillips' death.
