Base housing is officially privatized Published July 1, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Alexander Guerrero 7th Bomb Wing Public Affairs DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Balfour Beatty Communities (BBC) has assumed responsibility of Dyess Base Housing as of June 6 and proposes to begin housing upgrades and construction of community amenities by Sept. 8. BBC will construct a community center with pool, fitness room, business center, outdoor center, gazebo with large barbecue, tennis and volleyball courts, new lighting for walkways and more. "There are plans for all 674 housing units to be touched by privatization. 173 units in Hunter Mesa will have some Backlog Maintenance and Repair items accomplished such as replacing name signs and updating bath and kitchen fixtures," said Dolores Green, 7th Civil Engineer Squadron, housing management chief. "The remaining houses will receive small upgrades such as trees and solar power lighting." The majority of non-residential upgrades will take place near the Louisiana Road, Delaware Street area, and the Washington Loop, Vermont Court area. "I think the upgrades will be pretty cool," said Staff Sgt. Elizabeth Chao, 7th Bomb Wing Judge Advocate. "This will give more options for families to do things here on base." The new MHPI here allows the government to keep costs to a minimum, while allowing BBC to use their expertise to ensure long-term quality management and sustainment. "With the Air Force's privatization of housing allows the ability to give residents affordable quality housing in a timely and effective manner," Green said. "This means that Airmen and their families will be able to easily find a nice house and move into it quicker."
