The military justice system is designed to support commanders in maintaining good order and discipline in their units and to ensure mission accomplishment.  One important aspect of the military justice system is nonjudicial punishment (NJP) under Article 15 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.  When commanders decide to impose nonjudicial punishment, they can choose from a variety of punishments.  For enlisted members, the list includes reduction in rank, forfeiture of pay, restriction, extra duties, a reprimand or any combination thereof.  Officers can receive forfeiture of pay, arrest in quarters, restriction, and a reprimand.  When administering nonjudicial punishment, commanders weigh the facts and circumstances surrounding the offense against the member's duty performance, attitude, potential, and disciplinary history.

The following Airmen assigned to Dyess Air Force Base received nonjudicial punishment (NJP) under Article 15 during the fourth quarter of 2014:

A Staff Sergeant received NJP for dereliction of duties by creating a hostile work environment and for assault (touching the buttocks of another Airman without his consent); punishment consisted of reduction to Senior Airman and a reprimand.

A Senior Airman received NJP for dereliction of duties by creating a hostile work environment; punishment consisted of reduction to Airman First Class, forfeiture of $300.00 per month for two months, and a reprimand.

A Master Sergeant received NJP for dereliction of duties by engaging in personal, intimate and sexual relationships with subordinates while fulfilling a Superintendent position within his squadron, and for committing adultery; punishment consisted of reduction to Technical Sergeant, and a reprimand.

An Airman First Class received NJP for dereliction of duties for underage drinking; punishment consisted of reduction to Airman (suspended), 20 days extra duty, and a reprimand.

An Airman First Class received NJP for drug use (marijuana); punishment consisted of reduction to Airman Basic, restriction to Dyess AFB for 30 days, 30 days extra duty, and a reprimand.

An Airman First Class received NJP for kissing another Airman without her consent; punishment consisted of reduction to Airman Basic, and a reprimand.

An Airman First Class received NJP for dereliction of duties for underage drinking; punishment consisted of reduction to Airman (suspended), forfeiture of $858.00 (suspended), and 15 days extra duty (suspended).

An Airman First Class received NJP for dereliction of duties for providing alcohol to minors; punishment consisted of reduction to Airman (suspended).

A Technical Sergeant received NJP for touching an Airman on the shoulder and buttocks without her consent; punishment consisted of reduction to Staff Sergeant, and a reprimand.

A Technical Sergeant received NJP for assault (grabbing and pinching a child's chest with his hands) and child endangerment; punishment consisted of reduction to Staff Sergeant, forfeiture of $1,000.00 per month for two months (suspended), and a reprimand.

An Airman First Class received NJP for failure to obey a lawful order by wearing the improper uniform when instructed to report to the First Sergeant's office and for dereliction of duties by failing a dorm inspection (cleanliness standards); punishment consisted of reduction to Airman (suspended), restriction to Dyess AFB for 21 days, 30 days extra duty, and a reprimand.

A Senior Airman received NJP for failure to go/AWOL for failing to go to his appointed place of duty (Ramstein Air Base) at the appointed time and for larceny (stealing another individual's wireless internet); punishment consisted of reduction to Airman First Class, forfeiture of $500.00 per month for two months (suspended), 15 days extra duty, and a reprimand. 

A Technical Sergeant received NJP for assault (shoving an Airman onto a table and punching another Airman in the face); punishment consisted of reduction to Staff Sergeant, and a reprimand.

A Senior Airman received NJP for dereliction of duties by failing to properly secure classified information in a safe and for failing to properly account for personnel and equipment during a Wing training exercise; punishment consisted of reduction to Airman First Class, 45 days extra duty (extra duty in excess of 15 days suspended), and a reprimand.

An Airman First Class received NJP for failure to go/AWOL for failing to go to his appointed place of duty (Fitness Center) at the appointed time and for making a false official statement (stating he passed his PT test, which was false); punishment consisted of reduction to Airman, forfeiture of $700.00 (suspended), and a reprimand.

A Senior Airman received NJP for assault (striking a civilian in the face and choking a civilian); punishment consisted of reduction to Airman First Class, forfeiture of $500.00 per month for two months (suspended), 30 days extra duty, and a reprimand.

An Airman First Class received NJP for drunken operation of a vehicle; punishment consisted of reduction to Airman (suspended), and 30 days extra duty.

A Senior Airman received NJP for adultery; punishment consisted of reduction to Airman First Class, forfeiture of $400.00 per month for two months, and 15 days extra duty.

A Senior Airman received NJP for drunken operation of a vehicle; punishment consisted of reduction to Airman First Class, forfeiture of $959.00 per month for two months (suspended), 20 days extra duty, and a reprimand. 

A Senior Airman received NJP for wrongfully issuing an official U.S. Government Civilian identification card to an individual when the individual was not authorized to have such an identification card; punishment consisted of reduction to Airman First Class, and a reprimand.
