With the launch of the Dyess Big Country Airfest app on April 1, Dyess is now offering another avenue to keep people connected with the latest news and information about the 2015 Dyess Big Country Airfest to be held on base May 2-3.

Dyess Big Country Airfest is a free mobile application available on Apple and Android smartphones. The app offers all the information people will need to dress for forecasted weather conditions, navigate to the event, stay tuned on what act is coming up next, get more information on their favorite aircraft, and even find something to eat for lunch while they enjoy the show.

Directions to Dyess can be retrieved by tapping the "Maps" icon within the app. The app also features an event map that identifies parking, spectator areas, the vendor entrance, location of the car show, etc. The map will be updated as needed to reflect changes to the event layout, maximizing its viability to users during the Airfest.

In addition to a schedule that highlights key events like the gates opening at 9 a.m., the invocation at 11 a.m., and intermissions to announce the Abilene Military Affairs Committee's Family of the Year award winners and conduct enlistment ceremonies, the app contains a brief fact card for each aircraft appearing in the Airfest as an aerial performer, static ground display, or both.

To help out in the event of an emergency, the app includes directions to the lost child/parent station, which will be located in Hangar 4315, along with a first aid station to treat minor cuts injuries or coordinate for emergency medical services. The app can also be used to contact emergency services or the on-base medical control center with the touch of a button. Just as easily, app users can dial the Dyess operator, the 7th Force Support Marketing office, or the 7th Bomb Wing Public Affairs office.

With so many exciting performances planned, the app creater recognized the necessity of including a camera option that will allow spectators to snap photos and upload them to Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook along with the hashtags, #dyessairshow and #bigcountryairfest. People can even submit photos to the 7th Bomb Wing Public Affairs office to be displayed on Dyess' official Facebook and Twitter pages.
