The 41st annual Air Force Assistance Fund campaign is at its halfway point here.

Team Dyess' goal is to raise $115,000 and so far has achieved approximately 50 percent of that goal.

All monies raised during the campaign go to supporting the Air Force's four charities: the Air Force Villages Charitable Foundation, the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, the Air Force Enlisted Village and the Air Force Aid Society.

The Air Force Aid Society provides emergency assistance to Airmen and their families, and sponsors education and quality of life programs in communities. The Air Force Enlisted Village provides homes for surviving spouses of retired enlisted Airmen. The Air Force Villages Charitable foundation is a retirement community that cares for retired Air Force officer widows who need financial assistance and the LeMay Foundation awards grants to retired Airmen and their spouses in financial need.

"The primary charity that we have been emphasizing at Dyess is the Air Force Aid Society," said a captain from the 9th Bomb Squadron. "This is the organization that the Airman and Family Readiness Center utilizes to provide assistance to Airmen on base."

Last year 244 Dyess Airmen used money from the Air Force Aid Society.

"A lot of people think of the Air Force Aid Society as only being used when some has an emergency, such as the passing of a family member," the captain said. "While that is true, they also provide for numerous community programs. Examples of this that people have used before and didn't realize they were using funds from the Air Force Aid Society would be the 'car care because we care' and the 'give parents a break' programs. Both of these are provided for Airmen through the Airman and Family Readiness Center with money from the Air Force Aid Society."

The Air Force-wide goal for the Air Force Assistance Fund campaign is to raise $6.54 million dollars.

Anyone wishing to participate can obtain a donation form from their squadron's key worker. Additional information is also available at http://www.afassistancefund.org.
