Dyess Airman killed in vehicle accident

An Airman assigned to the 7th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Dyess Air Force Base was killed in a vehicle accident near the intersection of FM 89 and County Road 653 between Abilene and Buffalo Gap, Oct. 18, 2015, at approximately 6:05 a.m.

The Airman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 8:20 a.m. The name of the deceased is being withheld until 24 hours after the next of kin have been notified.

Emergency responders included officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Buffalo Gap Fire Department, South Taylor Emergency Medical Services and the Taylor County Sheriff's office.

"Whenever we lose an Airman from Dyess, it is felt across the base and the Big Country," said Col. Michael Bob Starr, 7th Bomb Wing commander. "Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the family members and friends who grieve the loss of this Airman today."

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
