New Year’s Eve has traditionally been when people take a look back to the past, and more importantly, forward to the coming year. It’s a time to decide what changes we want or need in our lives and to resolve to follow through on those changes.

It is also a time when companies make changes. Whether it is personnel, a product or service, the beginning of a new year is when these changes usually appear.

This new year, the public affairs office has a new role -- to manage and operate the commander’s marquee.

The marquee is another tool the wing commander can use to quickly disseminate information to base personnel. The marquee can also be used for DV greetings, safety messages, retirements and other events that are of interest to the majority of the base population. The marquee will not be used for birthdays, hours of operation, or birth
announcements to name a few. Messages must be received by the PA office three business days prior to the date you would like your message to run.

Another change that has come with the new year is the requirement for the PA staff to review all content that is subject to being published on the Internet before it is sent to the Langley server and placed on your web pages. Public Affairs will review the content to ensure it adheres to Air Force policy and to check for any security violations.

The new year is a great time to remind everyone about the products and services the wing PA shop provides. The most visible product is the base newspaper, the Global Warrior. The Dyess Global Warrior is published 49 times a year for the men and women of Dyess. The paper carries a mix of local, command and Air Force news and
commentaries, as well as what is happening on or around the base. As a reminder, submissions are due to the paper staff no later than one week prior to the date you want your item to be published.

Another part of the PA mission is media relations. The PA office serves as a liaison between local media and the base population. The media section fields all requests for information from the local media . Another part of that job includes preparing base
personnel for interviews by providing up-to-date media training. If you’re asked for an interview by the local media, contact the PA office before you agree to do it.

Another aspect of the PA office is community relations. Community relations includes
scheduling and coordinating base tours, managing the speakers bureau, responding to request for speakers and coordination requests for flyovers at area events.

The PA office is also your POC for photography letters. Anyone needing to take photos on the flight line must come by the PA office to pick up an authorization letter first. The old photo badges are obsolete and no longer valid.

We are always looking for tour guides and speakers to help showcase the great work that Team Dyess performs. So if you are interested in volunteering for either position, contact the Public Affairs office and we will give you the details about both programs.
