Dyess' Enlisted Spouses Club donated $500 to the first sergeants' Warm Hearts Harvest Share fund drive Monday.

The Harvest Share is an annual campaign to support financially stressed Dyess Airmen by providing them with checks that are redeemable at the commissary to buy necessities, especially during the Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays.

"The money we raise between Nov. 9 and Dec. 21 supports Dyess active-duty military families throughout the entire year," said Senior Master Sgt. Theodore Lambremont, 7th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron first sergeant. "Even after the holidays, the money raised supports Dyess community needs by providing loans, grants and monetary aid for families in financial difficulty."

During the six weeks of fund raising, donation stations are set up at the base exchange and commissary and manned by volunteers.

Last year, the program raised more than $17,000, and Sergeant Lambremont said this year they hope for even more.

Dee Dee Orsak, the ESC president, said the $500 they donated this year came from their own fundraiser - an annual ESC cookbook they produce and sell for $10 a copy.

"We donate to causes like the Harvest Share because it helps other families just like ours," Mrs. Orsak said. "We've all needed help with something, at some point, ourselves, and it's something we do because we consider it our job to keep members of our extended Air Force 'family' going - especially during the holidays."

Sergeant Lambremont said the first sergeants and ESC frequently work hand-in-hand, but "all base organizations are welcome to donate, and we're happy to work with as many people as we can."

Airmen of any rank may receive aid if their immediate supervisor contacts the first sergeants to make them aware of the need. To volunteer to man a donation station, contact any first sergeant. To make a donation to the ESC or purchase a cookbook, e-mail Mrs. Orsak at deecandlelady@cox.net.
