One of Dyess' crew chiefs is representing the Air Force off-duty by participating in McMurry University's American Southwest Conference, a team comprised of the best college football players from the southwest.

Airman 1st Class Jason Parker, 317th Maintenance Squadron, was selected Nov. 16 to play on the all-conference team and recognized for his defensive performances on McMurry's team, ranking seventh in the ASC in tackles with 63 and recorded 9.5 tackles for a loss.

Parker, a husband, father and active-duty servicemember, is enrolled in 12 semester hours of college courses at McMurry and actively participates on their football team.

He manages a full schedule of work, practice and school while maintaining a 3.5 grade point average and said he likes the busyness because it keeps him in line.

"Jason is a welcome addition to our team," said McMurry football coach Bill Libby. "He is an inspiration to the other players because of his committment to his military service, his course work, his field play, and his family life, which he balances simultaneously. From the beginning of the season, when he led the team in tackles at Menlo College in California, he's set the example."

After Parker completes his term of enlistment, he plans to transfer his credits back to Northeastern University in Okalahoma, where he began school before he joined the Air Force. There, he intends to graduate with a degree in education and become a football coach.

"I have to give lots of thanks to my supervisors here for allowing me to do this," he said. "There's always the possibility of injury and other things, but they've supported me and have given me the leeway to get my degree and play sports. I'm so glad the Air Force has given me this opportunity, and I hope we keep winning."
