Brian Kirk demonstrates the use of a titanium saw blade on a car at Dyess Jan. 19. The titanium saws are much more durable than the blades normally used by the 7th Civil Engineer Squadron fire department and other Air Force emergency and rescue agencies. The $8 titanium blade can cut through metal and other substances quickly. To cut through a car and rescue a person trapped inside, the fire department would ordinarily have to change $2 blades 10 to 16 times, costing additional time and money, according to Floyd Jones, 7th CES deputy fire chief.
