The Director of Logistics, Headquarters Air Combat Command visited Team Dyess Dec. 19 and 20 to review Air Force Smart Operations 21 programs and visit with logistics Airmen here.

Major Gen. P. David Gillett Jr. said he was very impressed with his short visit at Dyess.
"The AFSO-21 program they showed was truly ground breaking," Gen. Gillett said. "To see the repair capabilities with the B-1 avionics and how they did it was impressive. It will definitely improve capabilities here and at Ellsworth ."

The Texas A&M graduate was also impressed with the logistics operations here as well.
"It really did not surprise me to find that logistics Airmen at Dyess are a team, continuously looking to improve operations," Gen. Gillett said. "The proof of this is shown in their readiness performance capabilities."

The general mentioned that in today's climate there are several new challenges for not only his logistics Airmen, but for Airmen across the Air Force. One of those changes has been the joint-service use of transportation Airmen in convoy operations.

"The joint community simply can't get enough of them," the general remarked about the convoy operations. "We have very dedicated Airmen performing a very difficult and dangerous mission, but they have responded to it in a very professional and dedicated manner."

The general also noted that growing operations and reductions in force are another challenge logistics Airmen have responded to extremely well.

"The innovation of our Airmen at every level of the Airmen tier is amazing," Gen. Gillett said. "This has allowed us to improve our readiness rates despite older weapons systems and less people."

With the constant challenges the Air Force has faced, the general said he is truly impressed with how the Air Force culture has changed.

"We have evolved from being a fight in place Air Force - to a truly expeditionary Air Force," Gen. Gillett said. "The Airmen at Dyess deserve a lot of credit for being a part of that, and it was truly a pleasure to meet them and the community that supports them."
