Dyess will officially unveil and open the new base housing units and crash rescue fire station with ribbon-cutting ceremonies scheduled for 2 p.m. on Feb. 22.

Congressman Randy Neugebauer, who helped secure military construction funding for both projects, is expected to participate in both ceremonies.

In December, Dyess Airmen began moving into the new housing units and the firefighters moved into their new station, but the official ribbon-cutting ceremonies were delayed until the congressman could attend.

The housing ceremony is officially opening the first of 326 housing units being built during the current phase of housing construction that began in 2006. This phase is expected to be completed in August. The contractor is currently completing a few houses each week, and approximately 12 Airmen have moved their families into the new units.

The new $11.2 million fire station, built by ECI Construction Inc. of Shawnee Mission, Kan., broke ground in November, 2005, and opened for service Dec. 1. The new station is 41,000 square feet - 23,000 more than the old station that was built in 1956. This new station is more centrally located on base, reducing the response time to the flightline and base facilities.
