Dyess will open its gates to the public at 8 a.m. May 3 to celebrate the Dyess Big Country Airfest in cooperation with the Experimental Aircraft Association from Abilene Regional Airport.

Aerial demonstrations begin May 3 at approximately 10 a.m.

The day's events will be highlighted by the civilian aerial demonstration team, Tora! Tora! Tora!, who re-enacts the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. Their performance involves many Japanese fighters and bombers as well as pyrotechnics.

The one-day event will also feature a wide variety of military and civilian aerial performances. The action includes breathtaking jumps by the U.S. Air Force Academy Wings of Blue skydivers and amazing F-15 Eagle aerial demonstrations by the Air Combat Command F-15 West Coast Demo Team. An array of civilian flying performers will do their aerial magic, and military aviation heritage will be showcased, including the historic and famous B-17 Flying Fortress and B-25 Mitchell.

Numerous ground aircraft and attractions will be available for young and old alike. There will be plenty of food, games and attractions to make this year's event a memorable one for the entire family.

Admission and parking are free. Security will be emphasized: no weapons, alcohol, animals except for seeing-eye dogs, glass containers or roller devices like skates, roller blades, skateboards or scooters. Small coolers and backpacks will be permitted, but are subject to search.
