News Notes for week of 11 July Published June 30, 2008 DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Archery Camp registration deadline July 11 The deadline to register for Dyess Archery Camp is July 11. The camp is July 14 - 18 for children five to 18 years old. The cost is $40 for youth center members and $45 for non-members. For more information, call 696-4797. Dyess Tax Center is still open The Dyess Tax Center is still open and services are still available for servicemembers returning from deployment. The following are hours the center is open: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center is in the 7th Bomb Wing Headquarters, Room 211. Services include filing electronic returns for federal and state and stimulus returns. Also, the center provides services for amendments and prior year returns. This service is free to all active duty, guard, and Reserve of all branches of services. In addition, it also available for family members, Department of Defense employees, civilian personnel and retirees. Call 696-2012 for an appointment. The center can file returns electronically until Oct. 15. For deployed returnees bring all documents with you including ID cards of family members, W-2s and 1099s received from financial institutions. For more information, call 696-2012. Dyess Vendor Fair being held July 30 The second Dyess Vendor Fair is schedule for July 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Heritage Club. There will be free food and prizes. Admission is free. Sign up for summer youth center movie trips The Dyess Youth Center is offering trips to the movies for children 10 to 18 years old. children will need to cover the cost of snacks and drinks. The cost for movie trips is $7 for youth center members and $9 for non-members. Sign up for an out-of-town trip to Dublin, Texas The Dyess Youth Center is offering a trip to tour Dr. Pepper USA in Dublin, Texas July 24. The trip is for children 10 to 18 years old. The cost is $6 for youth center members and $8 for non-members. The van will depart the center at 8 a.m. and return around 8 p.m. Children will need extra money for food and snacks. For more information, call 696-4797. Dyess Lanes will be closed on Sundays Starting July 13, Dyess Lanes will be closed on Sundays until Sept. 7. Summer Summers hours are: Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Saturday from 4 - 11 p.m. Dyess Lanes is closed on Sundays. Happy Landings is a welcome and orientation program for spouses of military members who have recently become members of Team Dyess. We have a variety of folks from around the base and community to welcome you to your new home and provide information about the services and programs available. Lunch and child care are provided. Happy Landings is offered the fourth Wednesday of each month from 8:45 am to 2:30 pm at your Airman and Family Readiness Center (formerly Family Support Center). If you are a recent arrival or know someone who is, please call us at 696-5999 to sign up and make child care arrangements. ACC policy for approval of on-line tuition assistance requests The recent change requiring students to complete TA requests through the AF Virtual Education Center, allows members the flexibility to complete documents prior to the registration period. We require our members to take full advantage of this feature. Our previous 30-day policy is rescinded to ensure that we are in compliance with the AF system. BTES staff members may approve TA for classes that begin 45 days, or less, following receipt of the on-line TA request. Exception: For those academic institutions with unique enrollment requirements, TA requests may be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis. Anyone who is changing stations to an overseas location to include Alaska on an accompanied tour with dependents, will require all family members to obtain an official "no fee" passports prior to departure from Dyess. Dependents are prohibited from traveling on their "tourist" passports to the overseas area. Processing time to obtain a "no fee" passport is approximately eight weeks at minimum. To ensure a smooth transition, call the Dyess passport agent at 696-4075.
