Name: Airman 1st Class Nathanael Southern Unit: 7th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Job title: Hydraulic apprentice Job description: I am responsible for performing maintenance on hydraulic and pneumatic systems on the B-1 aircraft. I accomplish component removal, replacement and adjustment procedures along with performing system operational checks. Time in the Air Force: 17 months Time at Dyess: 11 months Family: Wife is Jamie and son James Hometown: Bloomington, Ind. Why did you join the Air Force? I joined the Air Force to learn a trade that I could be proud of, provide a better way of life for my family and serve my country in the world's greatest Air Force. Where do you see yourself in 10 or 20 years? In the next 10 years I would like to be a fully qualified valuable hydraulic craftsman. What do you do for fun here? I like bowling on base. They have a nice facility my family and I enjoy. I also like to do woodworking in my spare time. If you could be the chief of staff of the Air Force for one day, what would you do? I would endorse a contract competition for the creation of a fast, user-friendly detailed technical order and parts ordering system. If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why? I would go to Japan because their culture intrigues me. If you could be someone else, who would it be and why? I would be Buzz Aldrin. Besides being a brilliant innovator in the American exploration of space, he has great integrity that cannot be questioned.
