2008 Combined Federal Campaign begins Oct. 10 Published Oct. 9, 2008 By Capt. Patrick Lamie 2008 Dyess Combined Federal Campaign coordinator DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Each fall, the Combined Federal Campaign representatives come to military workplaces and give servicemembers the chance to make an investment in family, community and self. Thousands of organizations throughout the country, including several local organizations, receive generous donations through CFC. Those donations come in different dollar amounts, but all have the same intent and purpose of making someone's life better. The 2008 CFC season officially begins here Oct. 10 and runs through Nov. 21. On Oct. 15 the Campaign Kickoff Burger Burn is scheduled to take place at the Parade Grounds from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and local agencies will be on hand for members to talk with and learn more about their charity. Members will have the opportunity to eat for free after completing their CFC donation form. Squadron or unit representatives will contact units to ask for participation and donations. The CFC is the only authorized solicitation of employees in the federal workplace on behalf of charitable organizations. The mission of the CFC is to support and to promote philanthropy through a program that is employee-focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all. Through the CFC, everyone has the power to impact the lives of people in this community, across this country, and around the world. Last year, U.S. Federal employees gave nearly $250 million through the CFC. Those dollars were used to fight poverty, hunger, violence and disease. In 2007, Dyess members raised more than $160,000. In order to raise that much money, it takes everyone's generosity. There are two ways to donate. The first is a one-time cash or check donation. The second and most popular is payroll deduction. Most members use payroll deduction for its convenience and because money that is not seen is money that is not missed. The minimum amount for payroll deduction is two dollars per month. Today, we have an opportunity to make a better tomorrow.
