For the third year in a row, Dyess personnel showed their support and generosity at the Combined Federal Campaign burger burn Oct. 15 by donating $3,337 to local and international charities, bringing the CFC progress for week one to $16,476 or nine percent of the total goal.

The burger burn is the annual kick off of the CFC, a fundraising event that normally spans a six-week period. This year's four-week campaign theme is "Be a Star in Someone's Life."

"I am overwhelmed by the number of participants and the generosity shown by Team Dyess," said Capt. Patrick Lamie, the CFC chairman. He applauded the outstanding efforts of all of the volunteer personnel behind the scenes. "Without their time and tireless efforts, none of this would be possible," he said.

About a dozen local charities were present at the event, including Dyess' Youth Center and the We Care Team. The Dyess commissary, chapel, outdoor recreation, officer's and officer's spouses clubs, together with Abilene organizations, also extended generosity to make the burger burn possible. Volunteers, including base first sergeants, served 300 base members.

"Dyess personnel really stepped up to the challenge," Captain Lamie said. "Their excellence in support of the daily mission is also evident in their fund raising, making the world a better place. In light of the present tragedy out in California, with the wildfires and the devastation to the homes and property to hundreds of thousands of families, the need this year has increased dramatically."

Those who were unable to attend the burger burn or have not yet had the opportunity to make a contribution to the CFC may contact a unit representative.
