Article 15s Published March 2, 2009 DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The following Dyess Airmen received Article 15s between Jan. 2 and Feb. 15: A 317th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Staff Sergeant received an Article 15 for failing to pay a debt, failing to accomplish specified tasks before leaving his place of duty, and leaving his place of duty without authority. Punishment consisted of a reduction to the grade of senior airman, suspended forfeitures of $1,109 for two months, 30 days extra duty and a reprimand. A 317th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Airman First Class received an Article 15 for failing to report a traffic ticket to the first sergeant and for driving a motor vehicle while his license was revoked. Punishment consisted of a reduction to the grade of Airman, suspended forfeitures of $784 pay, suspended 15 days extra duty and a reprimand. A 317th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Airman First Class received an Article 15 for failing to report to duty on-time, failing to maintain a proper a haircut, and failing to pay a debt. Punishment consisted of a reduction to the grade of Airman, suspended forfeitures of $784 pay, 45 days extra duty and a reprimand. A 317th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Senior Airman received an Article 15 for absenting himself from his place of duty. Punishment consisted of a suspended reduction to the grade of Airman First Class, 15 days extra duty and a reprimand. A 7th Civil Engineering Squadron Airman First Class received an Article 15 for sleeping on duty, failing to keep his dorm room up to standard, and for not returning to work on time. Punishment consisted of a reduction to the grade of Airman and 14 days extra duty. A 7th Communications Squadron Airman First Class received an Article 15 for failing to remain in the immediate local area when instructed to do so. Punishment consisted of a reduction to the grade of Airman and forfeitures of $256 pay. A 7th Logistics Readiness Squadron Senior Airman received an Article 15 for failing to follow safety instructions during a live fire exercise and failing to report to duty on-time on two occasions. Punishment consisted of a suspended reduction to the grade of Airman First Class, 45 days extra duty and a reprimand. A 7th Security Forces Squadron Staff Sergeant received an Article 15 for writing worthless checks in the amount of $300 on four separate occasions. Punishment consisted of a suspended reduction to the grade of Senior Airman, 30 days extra duty and a reprimand. The military justice system is a commander' s program designed to support good order and discipline in the unit and to ensure mission accomplishment. When commanders determine nonjudicial punishment is appropriate, they can choose from a variety of punishments including reduction in rank, forfeiture of pay, restriction, extra duties and a reprimand. While the facts of some offenses may appear similar, commanders take into account the member's duty performance, attitude, potential and disciplinary history, such as previous counselings, reprimands or nonjudicial punishments.
