In order to determine if you are ready to be a dad, you must first understand what it means to be a father. What is a man's role in raising and taking care of a baby?

In the past, fathers were responsible for discipline and setting rules while the mother did most of the caring for the child. But times have changed and most men what to share in the bonding that only comes through the day-to-day physical caring of a child. The problem is most men were not raised this way and need further guidance.

The Family Advocacy Program realizes this dilemma and has a solution. Introducing "Dads 101." This is a training program for dads presented by other dads. It provides a safe environment for fathers to openly discuss their fears and concerns about fatherhood. It gives them the confidence to feel comfortable in caring for infant children and their role as fathers. This course allows fathers to build a support system, which they can call on in times of stress.

It takes a very special person to be a dad. Become that special person through Dads 101. This training is held once a quarter on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 11:30-1 p.m. in the Western Conference Room on the first floor of the Dyess Clinic. The first training will be held April 22 - 24. Contact Diane Bradley at 696-5380 to register.
