The 7th Bomb Wing was selected as the winner of the Air Combat Command 2010 Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award, beating out 21 other major operating bases throughout ACC.

The 7th Bomb Wing also won two out of three special categories. The recipients were 7th Force Support Squadron and 7th Security Forces Squadron.

"Winning the award is not about the base itself, it's about the people; the Airmen, their families, civilian hires and contractors who make Dyess more than just a place to work, but their home," said Colonel Gass.

By winning the award at the major command level, Dyess will go on to compete against other Air Force installations. If selected as one of the two finalists, the base will undergo a 36-hour inspection in 2010.

"I am extremely proud of Team Dyess and our accomplishments. Our pride in our base will be hard to beat at Air Force level," said Colonel Gass.

Nominees for the award were those that introduced innovative programs that help create and sustain excellent base operations. These programs had to improve the installation's work environment or physical plant; improve quality of life; enhance productivity of the work force; increase customer satisfaction or improve customer service; encourage bottom-to-top communication and team problem solving; promote unit cohesiveness and recognize outstanding individual efforts; as well as set new standards for energy conservation and environmental safety to include compliance, remediation and stewardship.

Among the numerous accomplishments by Team Dyess some of the most noteworthy are: $33.8 million in projects for 55 facilities completed this year; $31 million to build a new reserve center that will relocate five Army units here; cleared 89,000 square-feet of base footprints and is on goal to meet the Air Force goal of 20 percent reduction by 2020.

"This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of Team Dyess," said Colonel Gass. "However, the work doesn't stop here. We'll continue to push forward, preparing for future missions while supporting global engagements, always ready to take on the next challenge," said Colonel Gass.
