12th Air Force issues stricter rules on Mexico travel Published Aug. 11, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Shannon Hall 7th Bomb Wing Public Affairs DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- 12th Air Force has issued General Order Number One giving stricter rules on Mexico travel affecting all military personnel including activated reservists and guardsmen assigned to 12 AF and its subordinate units. Dyess Airmen are restricted from traveling by air, land and sea within 50 miles of the Mexican border due to constant violence in the area, while all servicemembers are restricted from traveling to the states of Chihuahua, Durango and the cities of Nogales, Piedras Negras, Nuevo Laredo, Monterrey and Matamoras until further notice. 7th Bomb Wing members and its tenant units must complete a four-page checklist and receive a briefing from the Office of Special Investigations and Anti-Terrorism Office prior to any Mexico related travel. ATO requires the completed checklist 14 days prior to the departure date said Mr. Howard Thompson of the ATO. The wing commander is the final approving official for 7 BW members, with the first colonel with approval authority within a tenant unit being the approving official for those members. The purpose of this order is to ensure discipline, safety and welfare of Dyess Airmen by preventing contact with violent areas.
