Ronald G. Miller, 7th Contracting Squadron chief of infrastructure, was selected as the 12th Air Force Senior Civilian of the Year at a 12th Air Force award banquet held in Las Vegas Feb. 23.

Each year, 12th Air Force officials recognize civilian employees for outstanding achievement based on the nature of the achievement, development of techniques or procedures that significantly increased mission effectiveness, and breadth of impact.

"I was shocked," said Mr. Miller. "I saw who my competition was, and I hold all of them in very high regard."

Mr. Miller has been at Dyess more than 25 years and currently oversees a team of 35 civilians, officers and Airmen from the 7 CONS, a team he has praised as the main contributors to the award.

"This award could not have been won without the hard work and dedication of every Airman from this squadron," Mr. Miller said. "The award is great for the 7th Contracting Squadron, great for the mission support group and great for Dyess."

As the chief of infrastructure, Mr. Miller approves and oversees all construction done at Dyess. He is responsible for more than $200 million invested into contracts on base.

Two major projects last year included $10.2 million for airfield repairs and an additional $1.4 million to replace airfield lighting, a priority for the wing.

Mr. Miller has volunteered more than 200 hours of his own time in a reading program for Abilene schools, as well as participated in countless other community events.

"I don't volunteer to be recognized by anyone," Mr. Miller said. "I do it for my own self gratification. It is important that volunteer work comes from your heart and not done to just fill a requirement."

No contracting officer has ever won this prestigious award. Mr. Miller reiterated the team concept as the reason for winning this award.

"It would not have been possible for me to achieve this honor without the support of the wing commander, mission support group commander, contracting commander and the contracting and civil engineer squadrons," said Mr. Miller. "We are a team and work closely together each day to support the mission of Dyess Air Force Base."
