The 28th Bomb Squadron had a no-fly day here March 14, instead of sleeping in and relaxing for the day many members spent their mornings helping others in need.

More than 20 Airmen from the 28 BS volunteered stocking food shelves and preparing meals at the Texas Food Pantry.

"They did a great job," said Janice Serrault, TFP volunteer coordinator. "This was the first time the 28th Bomb Squadron has volunteered here, but I guarantee it won't be there last."

The 28 BS is no stranger to volunteer efforts, Airmen from the squadron take turns each week performing a weekly meals-on-wheels route. The route consists of delivering 60 meals a month to more than 20 different families.

Additionally, the 28 BS volunteered March 19 during a Habitat for Humanity project in the city of Abilene. The Airmen Advisory Council, Dyess We Care Team and 28 BS took part in painting a property that has been a main project for volunteers at Dyess the last few months.

"This was a great opportunity for the members of the 28th Bomb Squadron to give a little back to a community that has done so much for us," said Lt. Col. Ty Neuman, 28th Bomb Squadron commander. "By spending a few hours each quarter to give back to the city of Abilene, through projects like Habitat for Humanity and the Texas Food Pantry, we can show our appreciation through more than just words."

The 28 BS carried out more than 100 man hours of work for the Habitat for Humanity project March 19.

"As we train to fight in the defense of our nation we must not forget the people that support us along the way," Colonel Neuman said. "There is no question that Abilene is the most supportive military community anywhere in the country."
