The fitness center here received approximately $1 million from the Office of the Secretary of Defense to upgrade its facility.

The track, football field and basketball court will be resurfaced and a 440-meter track will be built around the softball field for physical assessment training.

During the resurfacing project, the push-ups and sit-ups part of the physical assessment test will be conducted at the fitness center, but the mile-and-a-half run will be held at the 28th Bomb Squadron parking lot.

The project is estimated to take approximately 120 days to complete.

"The improvements will be well worth the wait," said Master Sgt. Trevor Jackson, fitness center director. "The base may not agree with me now, but in 120 days when they start running on the new track, they will."

Improvements to the track include a new rubberized and flat running surface to decrease injuries, the turf on the football field will be repaired and the basketball floor will be re-done.

"One of our main concerns is safety," Sergeant Jackson said. "It's been more than ten years since the track has been resurfaced and seven years since the basketball court and football field have seen any improvements."

The fitness center encourages Airmen to use the basketball courts outside the dorms, and the soccer field in base housing.
