Deaton Cole fire continues to receive air support Published May 2, 2011 By Fred Noack ABILENE, Texas -- Even though Abilene and Taylor County received rain and cooler weather today it is still warm and dry at the Deaton Cole Fire located approximately 150 miles southwest of Abilene. Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System support was requested early this afternoon. C-130s from the 302nd Airlift Wing of the Air Force Reserves from Colorado Springs, Colorado and the 146th Air Wing of the California Air National Guard, Port Hueneme, California completed 13 air drops of approximately 39,000 gallons of retardant. Yesterday afternoon the MAFFS completed four air drops of approximately 12,000 gallons of retardant.
