7th Civil Engineer Squadron members setup an informational booth April 22 to pass out brochures and pamphlets about Earth Day at the base exchange here.

"We wanted to celebrate Earth Day, the national holiday, as well as promote environmental awareness," said David Laurence, 7 CES chief of environmental. "Education and environmental awareness is the key to seeing a change in our environment."

T-shirts, thermoses, coffee mugs and reusable grocery bags, all marked with the Dyess Environmental Program logo, were passed out throughout the BX to promote Earth Day.

Additionally, computer-based training was available to Airmen to complete their annual environmental awareness training course.

"Our goal is to promote environmental awareness throughout Dyess anyway we can. But our mission is to support the base and ensure it remains in compliance with all Air Force environmental standards," Mr. Laurence said.

A current project being promoted is the Adopt-A-Storm-Drain program where base housing members take responsibility for storm drains in their neighborhood and keep it clean and clear of debris. Airmen who volunteer for this program will have a plaque placed above their designated storm drain.

The 7 CES has participated in many cleanup projects on base, including last year's Earth Day when members partook in a cleanup of the waterway located behind base housing.
