As summer fades into fall, Team Dyess has a lot to look forward to; a break from the scorching Texas heat, the cheers from nearby high school football games and the annual Fall Festival Oct. 28 at the youth center.

Fall Fest offers Dyess families an array of events such as candy booths, costume contests, carnival games and last year's most popular event, the haunted house.

Tech Sgt. Jason Young, haunted house project officer for the last two years, said his team of volunteers is pulling out all stops this year and emphasized that proceeds from the festival go directly toward supporting the youth center.

"Last year we had a great turn out. The haunted house alone raised more than $900," said Young. "This year we're looking to do even better. The haunted house will feature more than 12 themed rooms with a different scare at every turn."

Young said he and his team intend for the haunted house to rival other Halloween attractions in the Abilene area and that it is open to all ages.

"The haunted house will definitely make some adults think twice before walking into the next room," Young said. "But we also have a special tour designed specifically for the younger children to enjoy themselves as well."

Fall Fest takes over the youth center from 6 to 9 p.m. while the haunted house will open its hallowed doors Oct. 28-29 from 6 to 11 p.m. Admission to the haunted house is $1 for adults and 50 cents for children.
