Airmen packed Dyess' Bowling Alley Feb. 17 in support of Dyess Bowl for Kids' Sake. The event helped raise money for Big Brother Big Sister, a nonprofit organization that helps children reach their full potential.

The Dyess Bowl has been an annual event for 12 years, but this year was a bench mark for it because it set the record for the most money raised. The goal was $4,000, but the proceeds almost reached $5,000.

"For me to come out and see the Dyess Bowling Alley parking lot full is very exciting," said Tim Yandell, Big Brother Big Sister regional executive director. "It blows my mind to see how many Dyess folks are out here today."

There was overwhelming support for the Dyess Bowl this year. Three teams were turned away because there was only room for 16. Of the 16 teams, the 436th Training Squadron contributed the most with $1,055.

"It's great to see a turnout like this," said Staff Sgt. Caleb Hedrick, 436th TS. "We set the goal for $700 and we had a couple squadron members put in a large sum."

The proceeds will go toward helping Big Brother Big Sister make and maintain matches for children in the Abilene area.

"It makes me feel good we are able to support a program that is all about mentoring America's youth to become better citizens," said Col. Gerald Goodfellow, 7th Bomb Wing vice commander.
