The U.S. Air Force requires airmen to take a physical assessment test at least once a year, which consists of push-ups, sit-ups, waist measurement and a mile-and-a-half run.

Of all the Dyess airmen to participate in this year, Senior Airman Julian Alberni, 7th Civil Engineer Squadron, was the top overall performer.

"It feels pretty good to reach a mark like that," said Alberni. "I'm always pushing myself to be better. I try to push myself to the point I can barely stand, but I always feel better afterward."

Alberni performed 67 push-ups and 60 sit-ups during his last physical assessment, scores that gave him the maximum points for those portions of the test. But where he really excelled was his run. He ran his 1.5 miles in 8:16.

"As a PTL (physical training leader), when I see someone like Airman Alberni performing at such a high level, it makes me feel great because I know that he's giving 110 percent," said Tech. Sgt. Albert Herrera, 7th CES. "He clearly exceeds all expectations during our PT sessions. His motivation and work ethic are what I wish everyone would strive for."

Alberni has earned nothing less than 100 percent for his physical assessments during his entire Air Force career. Not only does Alberni excel at physical fitness, he's also stood out while recently attending Airman Leadership School.

"Alberni is an energetic worker who conquers any task he is given," said Staff Sgt. Bryan Carrillo, 7th CES. "He won Distinguished Graduate, Commandants' Award and Academic Achievement while at ALS. He is a valuable asset to the Air Force and will excel at any career path he chooses."
