Dyess held the Air Force Ball Sept. 14, 2012, at the Civic Center in Abilene, Texas, to celebrate the Air Force's 65th birthday.

Retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Jonathan George was the guest speaker at the event. George served as the 7th Bomb Wing Commander from January 2003 to August 2004.

George addressed the audience and spoke about maintaining today's force as well as staying ahead of the future.

"You're part of the greatest military organization the world has ever seen," George said, "Nobody can get there faster or bring more firepower than the United States Air Force."

Following dinner, the Master of Ceremonies, Master Sgt. Josephine Krieger, 7th Equipment Maintenance Squadron first sergeant, led in toasting to the president, Air Force, the Air Force's chief of staff and chief master sgt. of the Air Force.

The ceremonial cake was then cut by the Airman with the least amount of time in service, 2nd Lt. Christina Salinas, 7th EMS, and the Airman with the longest time in service, Chief Master Sgt. Roger Shaw, 7th Mission Support Group.

"I wanted to go to the Air Force Ball to be with the men and women that I'm getting a chance to serve with," Salinas said. "Being new to the Air Force, I have a desire to learn from those around me who have been in the Air Force for so long and have so much knowledge to pass on."
