Memorial service to be held for Dyess Airman Published Oct. 16, 2012 7th Bomb Wing Public Affairs DYESS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- An Airman assigned to the 7th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Dyess Air Force Base was killed in a motorcycle accident in Abilene, Oct. 11, 2012. Staff Sgt. Stephen Freethy, 27, of Dallas, is survived by his father, Terry Freethy, who lives in Amarillo, as well as his mother, Linda Rike, of Ben Wheeler, and grandfather, Roland Feemster, who resides in Athens. Freethy is also survived by two brothers, Travis and Joshua Freethy. Freethy was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident at 7:40 a.m. by a local official, said Maj. Brian Golden, 7th Bomb Wing chief of safety. The accident occurred northbound on Farm Road 707 near County Road 314. Freethy was wearing personal protective equipment at the time of the incident and had completed all required motorcycle safety courses. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Abilene Police Department. Freethy had been a member of the 7th Logistics Readiness Squadron since December 2009. "The loss of one of our Airmen is a loss to all of us and our thoughts are with his grieving family and all of Team Dyess during this difficult time," said Col. Glen VanHerck, 7th Bomb Wing commander. "Sergeant Freethy will be dearly missed by his extended Logistics Readiness Squadron family and countless others in the local motorcycling community," said 2nd Lt. Cody Villa, 7th Logistics Readiness Squadron flight commander. A memorial service in honor of Freethy has been planned for Thursday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. at the Dyess chapel.
